This new single-port device further enriches Microchip's high-speed USB2 for vehicles.0 product series.

As demand for in-car entertainment and smartphone apps continues to grow, automakers must optimize system costs while providing reliable and convenient connectivity. To enrich its cutting-edge USB vehicle portfolio, Microchip Technology inc. recently released new single-port products USB4912 and USB4712.The two products, part of the Microchip USB2.0SmartHub IC series, are designed to provide automakers with more options to meet changing design needs. The USB4912 and USB4712 provide precisely the functionality required for a single port implementation, making them ideal for adding a single port to radio, center console, or wireless charging applications.

The new products conform to USB 2.0 specification and adopt the same patented technology as the multi-port series products. These new single-port IC package sizes are smaller, which can help customers save materials and reduce the overall cost of the system. With the single port and multi-port products using the same system software, designers can choose configuration, implement the solution to adapt to their product design smoothly, and speed up the product launch. These rich USB solutions support smartphones, tablets, and other connected devices without compromising signal integrity.

Charles Forni, vice President of Microchip USB and network business, said, "the development of these products directly responds to customer demand for single-port products.Based on Microchip's leadership in the multi-port field, we currently offer a variety of products that support USB2.0 and USB3.0, with one to four ports.Microchip's global support teams and development tools will continue to support our solutions and help customers streamline the design process."

USB4912 and USB4712SmartHub IC use native USB drivers and mechanisms (such as Microchip's patented role exchange technology, multi-host reflectors, and FlexConnect) to optimize design, easily integrate into entertainment information hosts, and smoothly connect to smartphone software and application ecosystems. Both products are equipped with built-in 32-bit single-chip microcomputer for USB I/O bridge. Both products support USB2.0 low speed, full speed, and high speed products, with a single USB2.0 high speed upstream port for connecting to the host.As a low-power, configurable USB 2.0 hub control device, USB4912 can extend the connection function to GPIO, I2C, SPI and UART, making USB SmartHub the center of system connection and control.
